To be able to understand and process what they have experienced, it is also important that children and young people are given the opportunity to work through what they have been through in different ways and on multiple occasions. Children and young people with previous care experiences are not protected from fear, thoughts, and worries. No, they need security and processing just like other children. Their experiences have likely changed as they grow and develop. That’s why it’s important for you as a relative to get a sense of the child's current experience and tailor the processing to your child.
Talk to your child about how they felt about what they went through. Encourage them to ask questions and express feelings and thoughts. Recognition, recreating situations and events, and being able to "wrap it up" are important parts of how children and young people process their experiences. It is also important that they are given the chance to reflect on their own experiences together with others who have been in the same situation. Here, MediPrep can be of great help. Therefore, we encourage you as a relative to motivate your child to visit MediPrep regularly, even after contact with the healthcare system.
