The UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (1989) aims to make sure that the best interests of children and young people come first in all situations. The Convention clearly states that adults are obliged to involve children and young people in their own healthcare and treatment. They have the right to be treated with respect, to be allowed to have their say, to be involved, and to be given information.
Children and Young People's Right to Information and Preparation
Children and young people want to know what is going to happen to them and they want to be involved in their own care. For care and treatment, it is a legal right to have information and preparation in a way that the child or young person can understand and absorb.
